DERBYSHIRE PLAYER PATHWAY 2024-25
Welcome to Derbyshire Player Pathway.
The England Hockey Talent System and Player Pathway provides an environment that helps all junior hockey players realise their potential, whether that means they are the best club player they can be, seek a lifelong commitment to the game through coaching or volunteering or perhaps go on to represent England or Great Britain at junior or senior level.
The Player Pathway comprises a number of tiers up to the National Age Group Squads and U21 Development Programme.
England Hockey's aspiration is to create:
- A phenomenal generation of players which the hockey community in England and Great Britain are proud of.
- Exceptional talent development environments which breed competition for places at every level and lead to a vibrant elite game in England.
- English clubs excelling in European club hockey and role models inspiring through consistent international success.
- A player identification and development system which attracts and excites young people and inspires them to be the best they can be and which values both current performance and future potential.
- Safe, enjoyable, and inclusive talent development environments with a duty of care for everyone's wellbeing.
WHAT IS THE PLAYER PATHWAY?
The Player Pathway is the County Hockey Programme within the Talent System. It provides an environment that helps all junior players realise their potential.
The Player Pathway recognises that all players develop at different stages and ages. Placing flexibility within its process to ensure the ‘right’ player is in the ‘right’ environment for the majority of their contact time, whatever their level may be.
Once you are on The Player Pathway you will receive coaching opportunities each year relative to your development needs and ability.
It is hoped that by the end you will have developed and enjoyed your Hockey and that it’s been tailored to your needs along the way.
County Hockey Associations offer the following tiers:
Development Centres - Provide a local entry point to The Player Pathway. The Derbyshire Hockey Development Centres are the foundation and the entry point towards further representative hockey opportunities within the system.
Academy Centres - Provide a high quality talent programme for players identified in U13-U17 age groups. This is an equivalent level to the old County hockey.
Details of activities planned within the Derbyshire Development Centres and Academy Centre are given in the Derbyshire Player Pathway Handbook. The handbook will be circulated to registered players and by coaches, clubs and schools, so apologies if you get multiple copies! - Please pass the information on to anyone you know who might be interested.
